my friend is receiving $10,000 and wants to buy a newer volvo and sell her 84 240 wagon 200

I told her to buy a low mileage 240 ,and there are some beauts on craigslist here in denver ,but her heart[mind] is set on the" newer is better" and i can not convince her otherwise...are there any good volvos other than the 240's?I know nothing of the newer series volvos.....any suggestions as to where her wad of cash might be best utilized?...thanks ,Kris

For that price, around here, she can be into a 99 or so S70GLT, and if you let her drive one, that's what she's gonna want....

(FWIW I was driving around our icy city last night in an 03 Cross Country, and even though it complained through various displays and Check Engine Lights, it was awfully fun to drive fast on the drifting snow...)

Tell her to take a look at the 940 turbos. Find the newest , lowest milage one she can. same good engine, more power, newer style, same easy maintnence( some things easier ) , plus it will have the automatic locking differential. Between that and a set of snow tires the thing will be unstopable in the snow and ice ( I know,I have one :-)

She should be able to get a nice one with service records for not too much and have plenty left over to take it in and get any maintnence items caught up and still put a wad in the bank.

Yup. Anything newer in a 900 series is a 6 cylinder - 960, S90, V90. They were built through 1998, I believe.

Later 850's are pretty good cars too.
