It pays to ask! (240 Classic) 200 1993

Several months ago I saw a very clean 1993 240 Classic sedan in front of my work. I got the guy's email and started corresponding in case he ever wanted to sell. It turns out he is the former Mayor of San Diego and he hadn't driven the car lately except to church on Sundays because he had the police drive him to work.

To make a long story short, I took possession today. I have ALL of the receipts, every oil change and scheduled service done at the dealer since 1993! It is in unbelievable shape. It was kept garaged and he had the dealer reapply the Teflon coating every few years so the blue green paint is very shine. I know most people say that is snake oil / needless dealer markup, but boy does this car shine. I also have a 1992 and this feels and shifts so much better. I plan for this set of wheels to last me awhile! I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have leather or a sunroof. But of course to paraphrase Herbst: if it doesn't have a sunroof, the sunroof will never break or leak.

*the line I remember was something like: "I would rather have roll-up windows. With roll-up windows, you'll never have to replace the motor."

Cool! I've got a 93 Classic sedan with just under 60k (bought with 28K two years ago). Mine is maroon, pretty much stock save for ipd sways and fog lights. I don't know what number mine is off the top of my head. Post some pics when you get a chance. Good luck.

Neat! What number is your Classic? Mine is #1,141.
It's a maroon wagon with tan leather interior, and a turbo motor swapped in. Just over 119K miles.

Nice wagon. I like the Turbo engine swap idea. What have you done to the suspension. I am thinking of sway bars and bushings.

Mine is # 190 and I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

        Suspension is:
        IPD sways front and rear
        Bilstein HD's
IPD/TME lowering springs (the rears could stand to be a half inch taller maybe)

Did you end up with any drive train vibration after you lowered the car?

I get a little bit of shudder when the car is lowered just when I take off from a top. It's not bad...nobody notices it except me. I ordered the IPD adjustable torque rods and panhard, which are on sale right now.

          Nice looking car btw

Haven't noticed anything like that at all.

I do have a slight but persistent little clunk coming from the left rear suspension somewhere that I haven't been able to pinpoint yet though.

I was thinking of buying the IPD sway bars. Does the kit come with what you need or should I also order some bushings or ??
          Thanks.

The set comes with everything you need to install the anti-sway bars.
I can recommend to buy a set of new sway bar end links (the things that connect the sway bar ends to the rest of the suspension), on my 240 the bolts (from sway barto link) were impossible to remove, but after a lot of heating them up and WD40, the bolts let go. Better use new ones!

            The handling really improved!

They came on the car, I put on the Bilsteins and the springs.

When I got a sway bar set for my PV it came with all the appropriate bushings and brackets.
