Have a simple question guys! 200

I am about to begin the process of swapping out a B21 engine. I have not worked on engines for a loooong time so forgive me for asking this seemingly silly question.

Is the torque converter bolted to the flywheel???
I guess what i need to know is do i need to unbolt the torque
converter to pull the engine or does it come out with the engine?

I keep thinking it will, but someone told me i should unbolt it and it stays with the transmission. Now I am confussed.

Thanks guys!

Karl

Look into what would be required to remove tne engine and tranny as a unit. then attaching the tranny to the "new" engine, and installing.

This would allow you to unbolt and rebolt the torque convertor with things in a more comfortable workspace. Plus you could check over the whole thing easily.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

    yes 200

The torque converter is bolted to the flywheel. If you are not removing the engine and tranny together as a unit, you will need to pop off the inspection plate underneath the car between the engine and tranny and remove all of the torque converter bolts. The converter should then stay with the tranny and the engine should lift out with some prying between the back of the engine block and the bellhousing. If you leave the converter bolted to the flywheel, the two pieces would be impossible to pry apart because the converter sits on the input shaft of the tranny.

    Good luck!
