Hi, I have a 1990 740GL and have noticed that as I accelerate it works fine but as soon as I hit 50mph and the tach drops to about 1900-2000rpms the engine will ping. I let off the gas and it stops and eventually when I get up to 55 it's fine.


I'm thinking the timing could be advanced? I changed the timingbelt and put it where the old one was so I'm not sure how accurate it is.


any other thoughts?

    If you suspect timing, check the timing marks on the pulleys.

      also, how much damage is caused when it pings briefly?
