Replaced bushings with IPD Poly- PS Pump still leaning- Now what? 200

My power steering pump leans toward the front of the car. It makes the belts squeek. I replaced all of my accessory bushings with the IPD polyurethane ones. The power steering pump is still leaning and is out of alignment. Is it the bracket itself? Thanks for your help.

My 87 had this problem. I think I ended up finding that two of the bolts from the bracket to the pump were loose or missing.

There are four bolts, in the gunk down there- all 12mm heads I believe.
MAke sure they're all tight and present and accounted for. Clean it off well and you'll see whether any are missing.

Mine seemed to be just about to fall off when I caught it and corrected this. Ended up not needing new bushings, as all the misalignment was from the bracket.
Good luck with it!

I don't know why you still have a PS pump out of line. You might try shimmimg the bracket bolts to straighten out the pulley. Shouldn't have to do that though.

My '93 940 had a pulley out of line after putting in new belts. In my case the pulley on the PS pump was ahead of the pulley on the fan. I had to take off the fan pulley and put washers over the mounting bolts on the inside of the fan pulley. This moved the fan pulley forward by the thickness of the washer. This was enough to get the two pulleys in alignment and noe the belt stays quiet. Sometimes you just gotta improvise!

Think you were making up for wear on the thrust surface for the crank?

No, the misalignment was between the water pump pulley and the power steering pump pulley. The PS pump is low on the passenger side of the engine on my 940. The crank pulley was in line with the other pulleys.

I had put new belts and accessory bushings on the 940 when I bought it and that PS pump belt got very noisy pretty quickly.

I've never had the water pump pully out of line like that. You could lay a straight edge between the two pulleys and see the the water pump pulley was about 1/16" too far in toward the engine. The pulleys were straight with each other. I can't see how the new bushings would do that but maybe I caused it then. In any case, shimming the water pump pulley forward by the thickness of a lockwasher brought the pulleys back into algnment.

Either bushings were not the original problem or something is not bolted together correctly. Maybe somebody added a spacer or elongated a mounting hole to get around replacing bad bushings earlier in the car's life.

Could it be the poly bushings instead of the rubber ones?
