Brake Fluid Capacity on 1984 245 Turbo?

I'm planning on flushing my brake system this weekend and wondered if anybody knew how much DOT 4 brake fluid I'm going to need. I can't seem to find a total system capacity anywhere. Off the top of my head, I'd say about 2 quarts of fluid???

With the Motive power flusher I normally use around a quart to fully flush a 240. Even if you haven't flushed in awhile 2 quarts will be more than enough to get all the lines cleared of the old fluid.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm using the Motive power bleeder and plan on filling it with two quarts of Prestone DOT 4 fluid that I bought at WalMart. The current fluid has about 40,000 miles on it and it's no longer clear/yellowish but dark brownish.

I've flushed several pre-ABS 240s using less than a liter for a complete flush. Fluid wasting is avoided by using Ate Super Blue Racing Fluid—mainly for the color, although it meets or exceeds DOT 4 specs. As soon as I see "Blue at the bleeder", I know that line is flushed and move on.

I can bleed in small increments by pressurizing the MC reservoir with the pressure port on my Mity-Vac hand pump, watching the level and topping off maybe 4 times.

The Motive bleeder may use more than I do, due to it's large reservoir and the need to keep plenty of fluid in there.

Agreed, less than a liter does it 200 1984

My local Volvo dealer told me the capacity was 0.8 liter, and sold me a 0.8 liter "Volvo"-branded can. Which turned out to be exactly the amount I needed.

Bruce,

Does the ATE Super Blue turn a different color when it gets too old or simply absorbs too much water, or do you have to rely solely on mileage as the deciding factor on when to flush the system?

Thanks.

No, the color has nothing to do with age. That's the way it comes, making it easy to tell when enough is enough ("when the blue comes thru you know it's new"). In 2 or 3 years or whatever, I'll do it again with plain Dot 4 or ATE Amber.
