Wagon Tailgate Repair Kit 700

Anyone have any tips for using the tailgate repair kit. I've got it, but the little tabs are kinda interesting with three screw holes, and only two line up.

It's pretty straight forward. Lay the flat metal piece ontop of the plastic so that the oval holes line up, shoot the top screw through while holding it down firmly, with the top screw in place bend over the wings and shoot the screws through for them. You can pre drill everything if you want or you can just shoot the screws through but be careful either way because those screws will strip that plastic out of there pretty darn fast. Like the other guy said make sure that all of your wiper linkages are tight and lubed and that the mount screws for the wiper motor are not loose as they have a bad habit of doing so. As far as removing it later and having a hassle with that I have never had a problem with it. If you remove the four lower clips, take the plastic off around the inner handle and the two screws that are there, and then just slide the panel up and off with the four black clips still engaged with the reinforced holes you should have no problems. Understand though that even though it is now reinforced it will still blow apart with harsh use and that once it blows apart again it is usually beyond repair. So, quit slamming the darn thing and give grief to anybody that does.

    Hello Keith:

It uses the two holes that align to begin with-- once those screws are in fold the metal over and install the other screw (I predrilled with a small bit, others have just pushed the screw through). Make sure that the oval orientation conforms to what's left of the plastic on your tailgate panel. Before you reinstall, tighten all the mounting points and pivots for the rear wiper and lube the linkage-- pulling the panel back off can make a mess of the flimsy metal provided in the repair kit.

    Good luck!
