Driving along and just dies. 700

Need a place to start. I have a 740 1990 turbo with 220K miles. For the second time now, I'm driving along at 40 mph and it just dies. Can't really tell it's dead until I press the gas. Then the idot lights come on. Before that there is no sign and I was just coasting along.

You direction is appreciated

    I have a '93 940 Turbo, and I just had a similar problem.

Coasting along at 35-45 mph, and when I press the accelerator, no response.
The tach would dwindle down over about 5-10 seconds and then zero, and the
idiot lites come on. Normally would start right back up.

I got a new fuel pump relay from vovlosite.com for about $30. Seems to have fixed it. This problem would occur 5 times in 15 minutes, and then not re-occur for 2 weeks. I'll be positive after 6 months.

Fuel pump relay. Resolder. Do a SEARCH, on this.

Hall Effect sensor is also a possibility. Do the Relay first. It's easy and free.

Next time it happens, watch the tach whilst cranking - it should jump a little. If dead, suspect the hall sensor (in the dist). If it jumps, listen for fuel pumps as you release the key. If silent, it's almost certainly the fuel pump relay (white or green behind the ashtray). Otherwise, read the FAQ - it's very detailed on no-start. Regards.
