Shift lock/ back seat release 200 1992

I was hoping to get some feedback on a couple of issues which plague my 92 245. First is a minor irritant but possibly an expensive one. I have an occasional problem (usually when I'm parked on a grade) with the shift release not releasing. The car always starts fine but I can't move the selector into gear without manually goosing the release lever inside the shifter assy. A new release selenoid is in the $240.00 range, could it be anything else? Secondally the rear seat back release lever is broken, is this a difficult repair? Are there any upgrades to the stock plastic lever available?
Thanks---Poorgie

The shifter problem can be delt with the use of the emergency brake. You'd pull into a parking place, and with your foot on the foot brake, pull up the ebrake, put it into park and then take your foot off the pedal. In other words it's the weight of the car leaning against the tranny which causes the problem.
I guess that's more of a coping mechasism than a real fix. I don't know what causes that, but I've had at least a few cars that've done it.
I'll wait on what others say about the rear seat latch, as I have the same problem with the release on the 245.
