The car idles very rough. Won't hardly go down the road until you get the rpm's up around 4000. Switched out coil and rotor and cap. Spark plugs show black soot. I am thinking it is the fuel distributor. How big a job is it to pull intake manifold and check air distribution plate. I also check the exhaust system to make sure it was not plugged. Any other ideas?

are the plug wires good? Is it running on all cylinders? Electrical issues can be a problem with an 82; the harness can create problems.

The fuel system requires high and constant pressure, and should be checked. Pump can fail and cause problems.
