volvo nut friends in PDX? 120-130

Hey All,

This is a message for fellow old volvo nuts in Portland, the wet NW. I am currently contemplating trying to cut and sew my own carpet kit for my 122. I own two of these, but I've never had one with any carpet at all. I'm thinking that if there are any fellow volvo-ers here in PDX with an old carpet set out of the car, perhaps I could come over and trace the pattern onto my carpet roll? Having never even seen an intact carpet, I don't even know if this is quite possible, but I figure it might be worth a try. I just can't afford to order a brand-new kit from Sweden or the US, so this is what I'm thinking might be possible. In addition, I'd like to make contact with anybody interested in having a friend to chat with on volvo subjects or ask for a spare set of hands for certain projects.

Anybody else (not in PDX) that want's to throw in advice on this project-idea is more than welcome. I hardly know what I'm in for I guess...

Thanks,
V-old-vo

Thanks Cameron,

That's pretty close to me, so I'll probably stop in if the other requirements of my day don't interfere.

Lee,

I tried to call you with that cell-# I had for you, but it didn't pick up, and didn't give me an option to leave a message...? It went to some strange Qwest message which made me think it wasn't working.

Anyway, there's another email message from me in your inbox. Perhaps we can communicate the address and a time I can come up via email.

Thanks.

Hey Lee,

I'm thinking you are probably they same Lee that had the big garage/yard sale this a last summer? I was there and got some great deals. If so, have you moved? I think I have your email addy in my email box in saved messages, so I'll hunt that down.

Thanks!

Hello,

I installed a set of carpets into my 122s and it went very well (got the set from e-bay for a good price - around $250 with underpadding if I recall correctly). You can find basic outlines of what the cut and sewn carpet set should look like from online sellers, but it wouldn't be all that hard to do (I must admit that I wouldn't be tempted, that is a lot of sewing!). If you still have your original rubber mat, cut it in place (see below for how) and use it as a pattern.

Have a look in the gallery (http://www.brickboard.com/GALLERY/index.htm?uid=32906&pix_type=&js_link=&sort=&model=) about 1/2 way down.

The transmission tunnel cover is 2 peices that are joined down the middle with about 1/8 inch between them, and include a hole that fits over the rubber boot that is reinforced. The front footwell parts extend just to the seats rails. The back seats and footwells are all one piece and include the rubber cover for the parking brake. This is a complicated part, the edges are cut and sewn to conform to the floor pan, and the transmission tunnel is separate peice, but all sewn back together...see photo's. The other parts are under the front edge of the back seat (use original rubber for pattern) and long strips to cover the sills (fitting under the aluminum door plate.

If you need more details, let me know and I'll take photo's of what I have.

All the best,
Craig

Thanks Kane,

I'll look through that site. I thought that this site was mainly for 140 and newer nuts... but maybe not.

Oh no, it's for ALL Volvo nuts. There aren't many 120, 1800, or 444/544 guys that post in there though. We all know the nuts though, :). You want to contact either Shayne Green at IPD, or Cameron... Just because they don't post much/at all, doesn't mean they don't come out to the meets and dyno days(we just had one) and hang out. Feel free to join up, come out, and have some fun!

Thanks for the link Kane.
