Steering Wheel Replacement 700

'89 740 Turbo

Using the instructions fromm the FAQ I was able to remove the airbag and steering wheel and I would now like to install my new Fittipaldi wheel. The problem is the airbag contact reel. If I remove it I lose the contact ring for the horn.

If anyone has replaced their 740 steering wheel, what did you do with the contact ring? It looks like I could drill out the rivets that hold the airbag contact ring in place and still have the horn contact ring intact. Is this correct?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bingo Don. When I put my Italvolante on I had to go pull a little common assembly from any old non-airbag 7-series. It was pretty obvious when you see it, it slips right in and it restores you to a pre-airbag steering column. No pics, and done a few years ago but it is what you need.

I'll look for one the next time I'm scrounging around the boneyard, thanks. Meanwhile, I did drill out the rivets that hold the airbag contact ring in place and the new wheel slid right on....but the horn doesn't work and the SRS light is on...

Oh well, I never use the horn and I can pull the bulb for the SRS light. The new steering wheel rocks...
