Brake Shim placement 900 1995

I'm about to replace the front brake pads and was wondering what the correct placement of the front brake shims. Seems they can be fitted so that the shim is either at the top or bottom of the pad.

Thanks for any feedback.

do urself a BIG favor and buy the Textar pads from FCP Groton, about $45. They have 'integral' shims that are riveted to the back of the pad. No more messy orange gunk, no more slipping shims that grind your rotors..and they are great pads.

The part# from Volvo is 272187. I did a search here and someone had already posted a pic of them.

Any help appreciated. Thanks again.
