hissing sound coming from the AC 900

Seeing as how it's January, I haven't been using the air conditioning much for the last 5 months... and even in the summer I rarely use it.

But today, I noticed a hissing sound coming from the AC tank near the turbo after turning off the engine.

After hearing this, I turned the engine back on and ran the the AC just to see if it would make any difference, and it did. The hissing was a good deal less pronounced then.

Any idea what's going on? Anything serious to worry about?

Thanks for any input....

Peter,if you are using your defog setting on the climate control, you are running the AC system-this dries the air for faster defog-some hissing from the receiver dryer is normal after shutting off engine IF compressor has been on.Try driving car without using defog-should not be any hissing from this area.Of course, you could be hearing a vacuum leak-but these generally aren't very loud.

AC tank? You mean the receiver-dryer, the large aluminum tube? This could be hissing from the expansion valve, which is mounted in the firewall, or it could be a leak. the only way to tell is to take it to a shop and have them look for a leak. Fix the leak now or you'll be buying a new recceiver dryer.
