to add to the mpg question....lets expand to turbos 200 1983

hey guys, now that we're answering mpg questions i figure i'll just ask what kind of milage the '83 245 turbo i'm looking at will get. it has the AW71 auto. i'm not sure how much difference the B21 turbo is mileage wise from my '86 245 with the B230....i know in my current car i have poorly working water temp sensor and the engine runs lean...but very well and i'm getting at interstate speeds between 29 and 31 mpg no lies. Thanks guys

hi there.
there is specific directions on this subject at turbobricks web site.
a rudeamentary setup to deliver more fuel at a set boost activated by a hobbs type switch.
much work before this can be done. tuneup stuff.
good luck
mike

ahh, nice site with lots of good info. a lot of this is a little bit over my head with no turbo experience but i'm sure i'll figure it out sooner or later.. one last question though, does having the intercooler make any difference in gas mileage? The car doesn't have one at the moment, but i'm planning on adding one for the extra ponies, just wondering if this helps out any as well. Thanks!
oh yea and do you know of any good sources to order an intercooler kit?

Thanks mike, I'll do my best to find whatever i need. There aren't any 240 turbos in the possible parts yards around here, but there are a couple 740 turbos...I'll have to do some measuring and see if parts will work for both. Thanks again

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug...

It'll be bad - like, stopping to fill up every 225 miles or less, sometimes much less - but it's just so much fun!

Probably quite a bit more, best I ever got with an M-46 in my 244Ti was 20 driving easy on the freeway (hard to do) a slushbox will have a hard time matching that.

Don't worry about it however, you don't buy a turbo if you're concerned about mileage, it's the fun factor that makes it worth buying.

well shoot, i really want the fun factor, but i also drive about 500-600 miles per week also to go to college. Well i suppose I can afford that for my last year. It just needs a new front fender and grille from where someone hit a deer. It is a bright blue metallic (a 700 series color i think) with really dark tinted windows and all the options you'd ever want...virgos and blacked out trim and all! thanks!
