crank pulley removal 900 1994

Replacing timing belt on B230FT. This is a first for me. I have the crank pulley bolt removed, no problem. But the pulley itself is not budging. I've done some hammer tapping around the flange.

Any preferred method of doing this short of renting a puller?

thanks!
Doug

I have done quite a few of these through the years (B20s)--some can be very stubborn-- use a good penetrating oil,a bit of pressure from behind while TAPPING around the face --keep at it, and it should work off. Don't bugger up the teeth!!

I've removed a few pulleys on this engine. Most came off with just hand pressure or a little tapping as described. On one engine I had to use a small 2-jaw gear puller which I picked up at Harbor Freight. There wasn't much room to use it but it only took less than a turn of the puller screw and the pulley popped off. I think I hooked the puller on the back v-groove but I don't recall for sure.

A little PBlaster on the crankshaft and some tapping around the edges (you might use a piece of wood to absorb shocks) always works eventually.
