I have the "Nordic Package" with the little display at the bottom left which shows outside temperature. Before I get upside down and go digging around behind it, I thought I would ask and see if it is supposed to be lighted so that you to see the temerature at night.

Some of us are gifted enough to reach and manipulate the back end of the plug in to get the bulb out without taking off the instrument cluster. I'm not. I put one in my 97 V90 and actually removng hte cluster is not all that bad. But I will forewarn you to only attempt this when the outside temp is well above freezing..the warmer the better.

First, find the exploded diagram of the instrument cluster and dash from Gregsk1 in the picture gallery. It was inserted into a post on May 9, 2003. It shows where the dash fasteners are located. The plastic sim-wood trim can be gently pryed from the surface to expose the fasteners. You don't need to remove all the strips. After that, it's easy.

Didn't volvo make an add-on kit for these ambient sensor/gauge units in the event you wanted to add one later? Anybody know the part number?

I dont remember the part number for this but it costs atleast $250+ at the dealer. The best bet would be to get it from a BY. I toyed with the idea of installing thi s but gave up as it proved difficult getting these parts even at BYs.

Yes it's lighted. The your display bulb is likely burned out and needs replacing. There was a post recently on changing the bulb out but I can't seem to track it. It is lighted, however, and should be readable at night.

yes it is lit and the sad part is the cluster has to come out and remove the guage from the cluster and put a new bulb in the top the hardest part is getting the metal ring out from around the cluster itself so you can get at the skrews holding the cluster
