Strut mount bearings that don't suck? 200

Less than a year ago I replaced my 205k strut mount bearings when doing a front end rebuild with some "OEM" SKF (made in Korea) ones. These pieces of junk started devolping cracks in the rubber the first week I had them on, and have gotten worse since then. So much so that the things look downright dangerous. They're bulging through the strut tower, and have hundreds of little cracks (some of which go quite deep).

If I hadn't thrown my old ones out like a fool, I'd put them back in.

Last week I helped a friend do his 240 front end. I noticed his 230k original mounts (which said Boge on them by the way) were like new in comparision, except for a little roughness in the bearings. We re-used them of course.

Does anyone know where I can find some of these Boge or other high quality mounts? The local Volvo dealer won't guarantee that the ones they can get will be Boge.

Thanks!
-Simonn

KYB makes mounts for the 240. I don't know as to the quality but you could go to their website and use the 'Contact us' feature to inquire about where they're made. They claim to 'meet or exceed' OE. But then, just about everyone says the same of their own products.
Moog and AC Delco also make 240 mounts. Once again I have no idea as to quality or place of manufacture. You might get lucky but it's a bitch to spend 50 or 60 bucks a side for these and have them start falling apart.
I've seen the KYB's on Tire Rack's website and the others at Rock Auto. I'd think you could get any of them locally but that's just speculation on my part.
I'd be inclined to try the KYB's and I just might chance it when I do the struts on my wagon. The originals mounts are looking a little tired.

I think you're right about the KYB's. I'm going to see if my parts supplier can warranty/swap me out with some. I probably should have gotten them in the first place. I've had good luck with their struts, bellows, and shocks (all made in Japan).

      Thanks for the reply!

Just because the parts are made by Boge, is no guarantee anymore that they will be of high quality. I replaced the original 18 year old Boge rear shocks on the 240 with new OEM type Boge , and the left side did not last 6 months before it broke. It has no resistance on either the up or down stroke, and sounds like a wounded moose. It was replaced, and now the other side is starting to make noise. Grrrrr! Groton's web site states that a lot of the Boge stuff is now made in Mexico or Turkey. I just replaced the front struts with the Sachs Advantage they sell, and they were made in Germany. But I left the OEM strut bearings in service, because they looked and felt OK.

I hear you on the questionable quality these days. I find it hard to believe that anything could be worse than these though. It sure would be nice to find some NOS Boge ones...

      Thanks for the reply!

That is a bummer. Its a little dissapointing as SKF is know to be high quality. Supposedly the dealer ones, "OEM" SKF's and scan craps are all the same Korean made ones now with GMB bearings. I bought the "OEM SKF's only to find this out latter. The looked ok but I have yet to install them. I would defintely let your parts supplier know as many parts carry a one year warranty. I would call IPD and a few dealers and try to find some NOS of something decent.

Last week a bought a Scan Crap intake hose only to find a made in China sticker on it and one of the hose nipples hanging off.

Man, you should return those things. Maybe I got a bum pair... but I doubt it. I thought they looked to be of good quality as well out of the box. I'm going to see what my parts supplier can do for me as far as warranty goes.

      Thanks for the reply!
