odo broken 200 1987

The odometer (mileage and trip) stopped working on my 240, and I'm THAT close to 200k !!! Any suggestions about what to check would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If the speedometer works and the odometer does not then the odds are good the gear has eatten a tooth or two.

Some speedometer disassembly is necessary but it it not rocket science. Perhaps someone has a link to a site that might offer more assistance?

      Hi-
Here is a link that should help:

      http://www.hyperocity.com/volvo240/volvoodometer.htm

When mine stopped working, I ended up replacing the whole head unit and just living with the fact that my odometer would be forever wrong. Once you do fix yours, though, I recommend you never again reset the trip odometer, as that is what wears on them over time, I'm told. Good luck!

      Tom

My odometer (both of them) broke this past summer. This is a common problem. I had the instrument cluster removed and sent here:

        http://www.speedometer.com/

They were able to fix the broken gears and set the odometer to the correct mileage. The total cost including shipping (two day express; cheaper shipping is available if you are not in a hurry) was about $130.

The common cause of this: resetting the trip odometer while car is moving. Best not to touch the trip odometer ever!
