B21FT in 122? 120-130

Has anyone put the later model turbo engines in a 122? Is it practical? Is it crazy? Hard process? Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks everyone,
Devin

B21FT in 122? 120-130

I know a Volvo mechanic in Montreal had a B230FT in a P1800ES several years back... Apparently just scary-fast, crazy, and very tidy installation, though I never saw it personally.

Try over at turbobricks. Seems to be some 122 turbo conversions going on over there. Most of these conversion never get too far along. Here's the most recent I've seen:

I think this one is trying a B230FT engine. Looks good!

Here's another one:

Here's a couple of 122/1800 with B21/B23/B230 installed (some with turbos). Hope it helps.

I've been over at the turbobrick site lately trying to get my 122/B21F converted over to electronic fuel injection using Megasquirt. Which I got it up and running a couple of weeks ago. Runs Great!!!

Is there a +t and a +i in your future?

Looks nice. I sort of wish instead of spending $1500 on the B20 over the last year or two that I had instead bought one of the rusted out Turbo Volvo's you can get around here for about $1k, and put that in the PV. Then I'd be tinkering my way towards 300 hp, not 180.

No +t or +i in my 122 future. 120-130

With EFI, the car has 20+ more HP and a quicker throttle response. Still needs more tuning of the EFI(I might get a few more hps after it's all tuned up). More than enough for my needs.

I think the setup in my 122 would be easily upgraded to turbo. The intake manifold is a B230F that was modified to have the throttle body on top (looks like a B21FT intake-> the throttle linkage setup is from a B21FT). Some chopping of the front would be needed to get a intercooler in there. There has been no chopping of my 122 body, and ~15 holes to mount new hardware (ie, gas pedal, fuel pumps, surge tank, electronic ignition, grommet holes).

I'm going to concentrate my time now on restoring the body on my second 122. So, I have a running 122 with a B21 as a daily driver now(the body is rough), and I can restore the other body at my leisure (I have a B230F/M41 setup in mind for that one).

Can we post multiply pictures inside a post, or is limited to one picture per post?

John-

When I started my project, I had a '65 122 shell (everything there except the engine and tranny). The orginal plan was to rebuild a B20 core, but right at that time, someone offered me a low-mileage B21F engine with a M46 tranny (I traded the M46 for a M41) from a 79 242GT (It cost me a 240 heater fan install. Time only, no parts). So, that's how my project ended up with a B21F.
