The Best SU Rebuilder? 120-130

I am looking at putting SU carbs on the car and taking out the Weber downdraft that came with the Blue Bomb.

Have any of you tried Island Automation in Canada to rebuild SU carbs or do you have someone else to recommend?

I am trying to find the best combination of price/quality.

I too have sent mine to Tom Bryant in Maine and was very, very happy with the results. And, he'll cost you about 1/4 as much as ZTherapy.

    Matt,
I have recently had a set of SU's rebuilt by Island Automotive and could not be more pleased. Even if they were more expensive, I don't think you can beat the quality. Rhys is much less expensive than another rebuilder in Oregon and the quality is excellent. I told a local Volvo mechanic about him and he is keeping a set of rebuilt SU's from IA on the shelf at all times.
I don't think you can go wrong sending your carbs to them.

It probably makes some difference where you are.
Joe Curto in New York does good work also - you can call him at (718)762-7878

In the middle of the country, here in Bartlesville, is Jim Taylor,(918) 333-3444
Tell him George Downs sent you. He does a lot of work for Brit car owners and
knows SUs really well. I think his prices are as reasonable as any.

I had www.ZTherapy.com do mine about three years ago and are working great. They also install roller bearing throttle shafts which are suppose to last a lot longer without leak problems. They are located in Salem, Oregon phone number:503-587-9800. You might give them a try.

I've used Island Automotion in the past and will not hesitate to do so again. The only reason I don't do more business with them is my own shortage of customers. Excellent attention to detail, quick turnaround, full communication, clear instructions on shipping details/methods/nuances.

I can visit Ztherapy in person if I drive for an hour. They also do very good work. Even so, I prefer to send carbs to Rhys. He really is that good.

    Best,

I recommend Tom Bryant. He does excellent work, guarantees his work, will help you in any way possible to get your car running properly and his price is well below others I got quotes from. I had to mail them to him and he returned them is about a week or so.
    His email address is: tbryant@suscom-maine.net
    Phone 207-443-6338

I also used Tom Bryant and have no complaints except for the slowness of the US and Canadian Snail Mail Systems .... Carbs are great though and about $100 US less than anyone else I had quotes from.

Cruzin .... Still working on it .... Received the carb spacers but haven't had time to install them. I have been working on my $200 1991 CHEBBY winter beater to get it ready and this Sunday our local club is holding our last cruise of the season ... we are going to cruise the south Shore of Nova Scotia from Halifax down to Mahone Bay... a beautiful drive with the fall colours. After that trip Ole Reliable is finally, after 40 winters on the salty roads , going to get a winter off. I am planning on tearing the OLD GIRL apart and finally get into the deepest and darkest recesses of the body. Hopefully by the time the job is complete my welding skills will have improved significantly, and there will be solid metal where the metal moth has been lurking.
