Excuse my ignorance. 940 SE's are very different from my old 240'!

What is the little sensor attached to the top of the passenger side speaker grill??

It is a sun sensor for the ECC controller of your A/C unit. It provides some compensation, (lowers the control temperature, adjusts fan speed, changes distribution etc.) when strong sun is coming through the windows.
