maybe looking at a 95 945t tomorrow 900 1995

Good evening all Brick Lovers

I found a auto dealership that has a 95 945t with 85XXX on the speedo. Currently i have a 92 745T but would really love to get this GEM.At least i hope it's a GEM. Green in color beige interior. Thule rack. for 6 grand. It sounds really tempting but i would have to get of my 92 745t. The 90 245 is not going anyplace. I think i know what things to look for like turbo shaft play, leaking rear engine seal, overspray, all the fluids. I'm sure i missed something. if anyone got afew more things to look for, please let me know. How can check for the accurate speedo reading other than the carfax? I'm willing to bet that there are no records but i will check and ask for them.

Thx.

    UPDATE!!!

just got back from checking out the 95 945T. I have to say that this one was clean as the board of health!!! I know that the dealership are going to do a very good job at detailing a car in order to get the most $$$ from the next buyer. SO the first thing i checked was the belts and the hoses. Belts were tight and the hoses did not have ant soft spots. engine bay was pretty clean. could even see the red block engine. My 92 745t engine bay is not as clean.gunk every where. Anyways i tried to check the front suspension as best as i could and most of the front bushings were not cracked at least the ones i saw. no oil leaks, tranny leaks, rear seal leak. all the fluids were the right color. but if purchased this car i would flush ALL FLUIDS. the panels were starting to wrinkle a little bit but not bad as ive been told.no blue, white, black smoke from the exhaust. This model did have a rear sway bar. no turbo gauge, no overdrive switch. i took it for a test drive and it has the power like mine but it is quieter than my car due to mine having a 2.5 cat back magnaflow exhaust system.

All being said, on scale 1-10 i would have to give it a 8 overall.

Take a tape measure and measure the centre of the wheel to the rear arch, take it for a run and measure again leaning = dead Nivomats.

Check the arms coming out of the steering rack for play at the rack end.

    Loose panel on the tailgate.

Play in the steering column itself.

    Regards

    Pete

We bought a 95 945t last year. One thing that bit me after the sale was the tires. I had looked to make sure all 4 tire were them same - yup all Michelin Energy MXV4, no sidewall damage, tread looked fine. During the first rain storm handling was really poor. I didn't look hard enough at the markings or tread style - one was a newer MXV4 Plus, the other three were much older MXV4s. Ended up with an extra expense for new tires.

PS Re milage on speedo, if the grain on the plastic part of gear knob is worn smooth and the steering wheel grain pattern ( plastic wheel ) is worn, the car may be nearer to 150k.

Check all turbo pipes extenally ( some are expensive ) If possible open hose drive clip at throttle body to check for oil. Check that Airbag, ABS and Lambda ( engine management) lights ilumenate with Ignition ON but not started. Check they go out when engine started. Check oil on dipstick, is it old and black. Check door panels covering for puckering ( pealing ). Hope this helps.

The 95 945s seem to be the model that is mentioned on this board most often regarding the puckering door panels. I have one with grey interior, and the covering at the tops of all four door panels are pulling away. This question comes up from time to time on this board, and to my knowledge no one has offered a reasonable solution (except the guy who cut a RubberMaid container into strips and covered the door panel tops).

I've read that the beige leather wears differently from the gray leather, but don't know if that would apply to your car. I don't think the door panels are leather, though.

      Door Panel Repair 900 1995

I too have that problem in my 95 945 w/ grey interior. It's bad on the passenger side doors, and hardly noticeable on the driver's side. I read that removing the door panel, peeling the loose material back and spraying it with the better quality 3M adhesive will allow you to stretch and re-attach the covering. I haven't had the chance to try this on my car (Too busy with my '67 Amazon), but I don't think it'd be too bad. I completely replaced the fallen headliner in my '86 745 using new material and the same adhesive. I think the headliner is a much more challenging project, myself.

BTW, I think the carfax mileage trackings are pretty good. You get a logged milage when the car was serviced, so any weird jumps back should stick out. I guess if someone has replaced the instrument cluster, you migh have a funky mileage. Presonally, I've never heard of odometer fraud on a Volvo - 'cept with some 100 series cars where the speedo started whining or the odometer gears broke.

On the door panel puckers... I'll fess up ...I'm the rubbermaid guy... what seemed a fine solution proved inadequate when the summer heat arrived,as the rubbermaid material would deform and pull away from the glueing. I had to clean up that mess. But I have got a much better solution that's still MUCH cheaper than finding new door panels... I bought some pewter colored (my interior is gray)aluminum door "thresholds" at Home Depot..about 2 1/2" wide... one edge is tapered down and it just conforms perfectly to the top of the door panel...cut them to size and screw them on (careful because the panel is made of particleboard). Looks nice and neat and they have channels on the bottom, so the aluminum doesn't get very hot and to the degree that it does, it cools down very quickly once you start moving in the summer. I've had these on since July and they're keepers.
