Choke. 120-130

What could be the possible reason the chokes on the SUs would act like each is getting sucked back toward the engine until their back to the off position? In other words I kinda have to hold the choke out so they'll be operational.
It runs fine once it's warmed up and the choke isn't needed.

If the screw that holds the choke cable tight, under the dash, is not really tight, the cable will slip right back to the closed position, under the force of the return spring on the carb. Pull out the choke, and look to see , under the dash, if it stays put or slides back, if it is not tight, when you pull out the choke, the rubber covers, and the cable will both slide under the w shaped clamp.

Z;

Fix for the problem you describe (after well lubed cables):

Another option is to remove the cable sheaths and reverse them end for end. You then have a fresh surface for the clamp to grip.

Return spings at carbs are supposed to return jets to the normal, unchoked, position when you push the control back in....but if your linkages and cables are lubed so well and move so nicely that the engine vibration alone is enough to vibrate them back under the tension of the jet return springs...consider yourself lucky...it means, you never have to worry about forgeting to turn the choke OFF! Sowherezaproblem?

The prob is that I hafta hold the choke out until the engine warms up! And I may want to use my left arm in other manuvers, since I have the steering by Armstrong system.

I agree that it's great to have the choke move so freely, and I also agree that it sounds like an annoyance.

Not sure, but is it possible to "bind" something at the pivot point of the cable assembly under the dash? Just to create more friction at the choke knob location as opposed to working at the carbs.

Just an idea.

Pearl;

If you need to stop it from pulling back in immediately, a little block of wood, or a quarter, or a cigarette box, or the bottle opener on your keyring...just about anything with about that one inch dimmension can be placed on top of the choke control (plastic) rod to act as a spacerblock until you dont need choke anymore....just an idea...my linkage is well lubed, but it still has enough friction in the cables to keep it in place...and it only slowly returns...

Cheers
