87 240 automatic,how do i remove the torque converter and flex plate? 200

I have the engine out on the table,transmission off, but i do not see what is holding the flex plate and torque converter on the crank,my chilton manual does not mention it...Kris

First you have to remove the torque converter from the flexplate, then you have access to the bolts that hold the flexplate to the crank.

To remove the torque converter, remove the metal cover at the bottom of the engine that partially covers the rear part of the oil pan and mates up with the bellhousing. There are 4 bolts or so that bolt upwards. Once that cover is removed, you should be able to see the torque converter bolts. You'll have to turn the engine 90 degrees to access each bolt 1 at a time.

Also, as you may be aware, be certain to get the flexplate on in the right orientation.

the torque converter has no bolts,what is up,kris

It does, on the side of the converter facing the engine. So, you can't normally see them unless you remove the aluminum cover.
