Stock rear shocks 200 1989

I still have my original shocks on my 244. What are they? Gas? Spring?
I'm looking to replace them , they still seem fine but they are looking pretty sad. Not looking for race type handling, just looking to keep the springs from bouncing, anyone ever heard of KYB shock?

I bought the Bilstien HD shocks the are awesome when I'm carring a heavy load, you might find them a bit harder when there is nothing in the back. If you own a wagon I definately reccommend them.

When I tested my shocks originally I did it the old fashioned bounce method and they did not bounce much, but after taking the wheels off I noticed they were quite rusted. After removing them I found that I could compress them all the way with my hands and they did not return back. Also they leaked oil all over the place.

Tony,

I just replaced both the front struts and rear shocks with KYB's. The car rides great and they fit just fine. I picked them up at AJUSA( http://www.ajusa.com )
at a great price. FCP Groton also sells them at a good price. The board members have many recommendations in regards to struts/shocks, but for me the price to performance ratio for KYB's is excellent.

I was waiting for someone to comment on that. I tell you, I bounce the heck out of the back bumper and let go.. that car comes up and rests...not a single bounce. So, as far as Old School checking of the shocks, the shocks are still doing their job.

I can't resist:

At this age, whatever the stock shocks were, they're finished.
