Interesting, thanks, you've taught me something about rated in-tank fuel hoses.
The J part of the spec isn't important. What matters is the R10 rating for an in-tank hose within the SAE 30 fuel line specifications. They call them rated for intermediate pressure (like 300 psi), but for our purposes it's plenty high (more like 35 psi).
The original Volvo rubber connector hoses (accordion style) were good for maybe 20 years, so the life of the original pre-pump. With the advent of ethanol fuels the aftermarket connector houses provided with the pre-pumps sometimes lasted as little as a year or two. IPD was among the first aftermarket sources to recognize this issue and offered a proper solid rubber fuel line as a replacement that they still sell. I see they're also still selling an MTC accordion one claiming it as Volvo quality. MTC is an aftermarket supplier, not a manufacturer. The quality that they source can be variable. As much as I trust IPD to source good products, I would much rather go with a solid SAE 30R10 hose than the MTC one.
