What type of ignition and carburation is in this car?

My suggestion is to check your ignition system first.
Always make sure your ignition system is in order before moving on to the fuel system.

Though it does sound like you may have a cooling system issue too, I doubt it is the cause of your lack of power.
Start with the basics and don't waste time and money throwing parts at this without a proper diagnosis.

A 140 series Volvo is a very simple car.
