I thought that old myth had died long ago. Reducing back pressure will not hurt the exhaust valves. Exhaust gas extraction is a huge subject, and some velocity to the gases is needed to help scavenging, so some kind of pipe is always required. Too big is no good, too small is no good.
The ipd system will be fine, and if it makes a bit more power thats good too.
