spraying oil out the back of the valve cover..

My 1985 240DL is spraying oil out from behind the engine at the valve cover level..I'm pretty sure that the half circle rubber piece back there has pushed out..Probably because my flame trap is plugged..I can't think of anything else it could be..That is where you guys come in because you may know of another condition that is causing the problem..Any advise is golden and appreciated by me..I consider this board to be my brain trust because there is so much knowledge here..Thanks!!

I would say this can be only 1 of 2 things: the valve cover gasket or the half moon gasket. The cause could be, as you state, a clogged flame trap but I suppose their could be another cause not as obvious. I would replace both V/C gasket and half moon - easy to get - I generally get mine from IPD so they are fresh and pliant. Good luck!

Sounds like the half moon gasket if it is leaking pretty badly. My 90 was gushing out pretty good when it went. The VC usually leaks slowly. I’d replace them together as the labor overlaps and that should put an end to your leak.

Flame trap being clogged will cause crankcase internal pressure and cause leaks. The biggest worry you have with a clogged flame trap is that you main crank seal will get pushed out. Ask me how I know.? Buy a New flame trap and seal.
