Volvo hose- what is this and what is it connecting?

| NOTE |
| Where the opposite end of this hose connects it is broken. There is a small tube of metal inside this hose there and the small rubber hose it connects to that is broken. The rubber hose it connects to at the other end is also torn where it connects to something else. It is jammed together, but must let air in. What is this for and would it affect driving - shuddering, shaking- in this condition? |
