The little 1W LED beads are easy to get on EBay or DealExtreme and similar web sites, and they are cheap. They also happen to fit perfectly into the dash lamp socket holes on the 240 instrument cluster.

IPD gear mounted on odometergears.com 15 tooth gear. Notice area between 2:30 and 4:30 at the axle pin, that is the gap. Basically, you can slide the gear in one direction about 1/32".
