NOTE |
The car was stored over the Winter and ran very badly when I started it up four weeks ago. I had a full tank of gas with stabilizer when I parked it last October. After searching for problems similar to mine, the Brickboard pointed me in the right direction when it suggested the symtoms could be a plugged catalytic converter. With only 68K miles on the car I didn't think the catalytic converter would be trashed yet but I decided to take the exhaust route and started with the rear muffler. This picture shows what I found. All my vehicles (and my daughter's) that are in storage now have soup cans over the exhaust.
Thanks to the Brickboard for pointing me in the right direction. It saved me money once again. I was ready to pull the fuel rail and have the injectors cleaned. |

NOTE |
Same as before, but I took a spare asktray chrome bezel and carefully cut out inside with a dremel cutting wheel. I cut a bit too much, but it seems to look okay. The only real problem is the clear silicone goop I got on the clock lens... |

NOTE |
Yes, I cut the dash... very carefully with a dremel tool. I can put the ashtray back in at any time to cover the entire opening. The dremel skipped a bit - hence the poorly matched Japanese Imperial Navy Green touch-up paint. I'd rather a mismatch color than a rusty dashboard.
I'm going to rework a spare ashtray chrome face to make a "stock" bezel for this clock. |

This is what the installed trap looks like. The mounting bolts and the small screw holding the wiring harness clip are clearly visible. |

Idle air valve and throttle body removed for oil trap replacement. The unplugged connectors are from the IAV, the throttle position sensor, and the sensor right above the oil trap in the engine block. This is perfectly sufficient to get the trap in and out. |
