I had the same problem. Used the instructions given, but it didn't work. I went to the dealer and he did it for me. As I recall, you have to be inside the car with the doors locked so that the anti-theft sensor on the dash is flashing red. Then you want to direct the remote toward the sensor when you are programming the car to it.

Does this help?

(My car came with one remote (the early model for the 95) and I purchased another on Ebay. When I couldn't get it to work, I figured I'd bought a bad one, but the service manager at the dealership where I bought the car did it the first time round.)
