Easy cure in US 850 1995

If you read the bulbs package, you'll see that they're only rated for so many hours no matter what, just like any other bulb BUT it's likely that your DRLs are always still on as they were from day 1. Turn them off so that they're only on at night when needed. Turn the small screw in the corner of your headlamp switch and the bulbs will last longer.
If you're in Canada where it's the law, then you'ld just have to deal with it.

Another idea, although I've never tryed it in an 850 (so maybe it won't work?), the '98 X70s now have a campaign where there's an added plug-in resistor harness to each headlamp assembly designed to extend bulb life and its helping. "Maybe" it'd work for 850s too?
