Do NOT disconnect the battery! That will cause the engine computer and tranny computer to re-learn everything and may take weeks to do. If you live in a 'testing' state, you will not pass inspection until the drive cycle is completed - which may take a month or more.
I just use a floor jack, not the flimsy thing that comes with the car, and place a jack stand under the rear shock mount.
The fuel rail in the engine compartment has a Schrader valve on the end of it. With a shop cloth in hand, push in the end of the schrader valve (looks like a tire stem valve) catching any spray with the shop cloth. Very little gasoline will come out.
The quick release for the fuel filter pull away from the filter. I use a 15/17mm wrench to push back the quick release. Do NOT twist them. A little gasoline might dribble out, a paper cup will be enough.
Clean the fittings before taking anything apart, no need to get dirt in there. Glasses are a very good choice whenever getting under the car.
Make sure the filter is pointing in the correct direction. Arrow to the front of the car.
