Dan,

It's really not that hard to take out the console cover plate and replace the bulb.

To prevent the bulb from shaking loose, I wrapped the socket a couple of time with paper tape (used to hold a gauze bandage) and it has been fine.

There are detailed instructions on this repair at Volvospeed's Bay 13.
