MAP Sensor location?? S70 1998

Dick,

If it's that nefarious P0108 that I had and still have, after repeated attempts at clearing with battery disconnection and Code reader clearing, it is the MAP sensor.

I believe my 99 V70 is a late 98 so it may be the sameas yours: There are two vacuum lines which come off the intake manifold. One is about 1/2" and runs to the purge valve. The other appears to be about 3/8" and provides vacuum to a small rectangular shaped "Denso" device I have the # written somewhere, clipped under some plastic just below the hood and above the radiator to the driver's side of car centerline.

The sensor has a three wire connector that can be backprobed so as to check input voltage - should be 5v, ground and output voltage. This was the first time I "backprobed" anything (I shant say more) and the connector appears to be constructed so as to permit this kind of probing without disconnection. The sensor itself slips into a metal slide in style mount that easily enables removal of the sensor.

Rather than purchase the sensor, because I'm 90% sure it is bad as output voltage never varied much at different throttle settings, I am waiting for verification from a friend who is a genuine mechanic so he can verify my diagnosis. The sensor was between $70 and $80 at FCP. I also called Boston Volvo for a price.

I promise to post when I know for sure, but assuming you have the same assembly and a voltmeter, I'd like to hear what you have to say. I would have tried to take a picture and post it (this would have been my first shot with the digital camera), but alas my wife took the camera with her for the weekend.

Good luck

Marty Wolfson
