intercooler clogging 850 1997

Sounds like the hose has gotten soft over the years...replace hose? Also, how's your coolant quality? Is it within specs? If not, then a drain and fill with 50/50 (anti-freeze & water) would probably be in order. I'd be very leary of using dry-gas in your car...my 2cents.

After re-reading my post I realized you were talking about intercooler (turbo) line and I was talking about coolant line. Sorry. Anyway, why not consider an engine block heater if temp. conditions are that severe. You can find one on this page (and they really are relatively cheap): http://www.volvopartsworld.com/volpartpage10.htm
I know your car isn't listed, but there's not a lot of difference between the V70 and your 850...will probably fit. Call them and talk to them about it...they can verify yes or no, or may have one to fit your car. I think that some of what you're experiencing is normal for such severe temps.

Regards,
MIJ
