Passenger side rear door 'lock' has been making noise for quite a while, but functioning normally otherwise. With the fob, I have been able to lock/unlock, but with a noticeable noise - I can only describe it as a series of clicking noise, as if something is grinding against gear teeth. The noise lasts only about a second or so, even though it feels like a minute while there are other people around (embarrassing).
Suddenly, I can no longer unlock it with the fob. The grinding noise is still there.
I was going to take the door panel open and tak a look, but does it sound like something I can do at home, or do I need some replacement part before opening? It sounds like it's a bit of work to get the panel open, and I don't want to open it just to confirm that I need to order a part, to put it back, and reopen it for installing the part. It's used as a family car, so I'd like to make the fix in one evening.
