How to change the spark plugs on a 2000 Volvo S40 S40-V40 2000

I've got the spark plugs, and I think I see how to do it, but I'd love to hear from some people who actually know what they're doing first. I've taken out the two screws that hold the metal piece over the spark plugs in place, and I've removed the plastic cover to the right of the piece of metal. As far as I can see, the piece of metal over the spark plugs is attached to them somehow, but I'm not just going to put my feet on the bumper and start yanking - not yet, anyway. If anyone knows how to do this or can point me to an online guide I'd really appreciate it.
