Replacing my 87 240 V70-XC70

I've got an 87 240 that has served me and my family for 300k+ miles as a yuppie truck. It is getting tired, and I was thinking of replacing it. I like the newest XC's but can't really afford em. So I'm looking at low mileage 2000 V70 XCs or higher mileage, and more expensive 2001 XC 70's. Or maybe V70 5t's. Any suggestions, things I should know, etc?

I'm trying to get a feel on the ETM thing. anybody know how failure prone these things are?
