Looking for help on this.
Last week just before an 800 mile trip, the check engine light came on. I brought it down to the Indy, who said all he had time to do was read the codes and "look at it". He told me the code indicated a fault with Injector #3. However, the car ran fine, so he said, at least for the time being, "don't worry about it", and in fact during the 800 mile journey, no problems developed.
Prior to the trip, I tried to reset the CEL by disconnecting the battery a few times, for an hour or more. The CEL, however, did come back each time after awhile.
About a week prior to this episode, we heard a significant, and much louder than normal clicking from (what I believe is now #3 FI, or it's solenoid?), which simply went away the next day. I believe this may be connected to the triggering of the CEL which strangely came on about a week later, long after the clicking was gone. At this time, the car runs fine and there's no excessive clicking from the injector area.
I have an appointment mid August with my Indy (he's real busy) and I'd like to try to solve this problem before that time and cancel. He won't miss me!
If anyone has any ideas, I'd sure like to hear them. Thanks in advance for your help.
