cooling fan runs after car is off? 850

I have had my car for 5 years and never remember the little cooling fan run for 2-3 minutes after pulling it in the garage and stopping and shutting the car off. Granted it has been extremely hot, but is that normal?

I read another message that said his battery was run down, nothing like that here but it's a new phenomenon and it's weird to hear noise from the garage after the car is shut off.
