purchasing the extended waranty?

I am being offered by the dealer an option of purchasing a three yeer 25K mile extended waranty for my '05 XC70. The cost is $2350.00. This is a lot of money. He is giving us until the end of July to decide if we want it. The dealer says that this extended waranty mirrors the manufacturer's origonal 4 year 50K mile waranty. Is that true? Is the cost excessive? We plan on putting under 12K miles on each year. Will I need to use the extended waraty?
