It is back again, the starting problems. It went away for sometime may be a few months for some reason and now it is back again.
Since I have read that the antenna rings in S70 have been a "known issue" and sensing that it "could" be the source of the problem, I plugged my key into the switch and turned it while applying some slight force in its axial direction so that (or believing) it will improve the contact with the antenna ring that I understood was located behind the ignition switch.
Believe it or not, it worked every single time. Now the car starts at the first turn of key!!!! (However, my threory about improving the contact could all be wrong, but nevetheless something worked)
I am now looking at solving this problem on a permanent basis. I opened my Jim Rex manual and it described how I could remove the three screws just below the casing underneath the steering wheel to access the ignition switch. From the picture in the manual I could see a some sort of a "dark grey metal ring" just behind the stainless steel ingintion switch. Is this the antenna ring everyone is talking about? How do I get this out? How much does the part cost? My mechanics get confused whenever I mention "antenna ring" and they seem unfamiliar with this part being the cause of starting problems etc. They tend to look at the radio antenna whenever I mentioned "antenna ring" to them.
Please help.
