Need help, coolant will not pump out of engine. Only hot vapor will come out of hose.
I pulled the thermostat out took loose the top hose at the radiator, started up the engine and water will not pump out of the hose.
Here is what I have done so far.....
about 1000 miles ago engine was loosing water and got hot on me..
I pulled the head and replaced gasket and bolts (old gasket was bad with holes and pitting where water jacket ares made contact with gasket).
I got it bolted back up and has been running for 1000 miles. Then it started getting hot on me.
The temp gauge would read normal, and then all of a sudden it would jump up to hot. I assume I was just a little low on coolant or I had a bad thermostat.
I checked coolant first, overflow tank was full, but had a lot of pressure on it.
Nexed I checked the thermostat, top hose was hot so I assume it was working properly, but it was still gettng hot on me.
I pulled the thermostat out, top hose is hot lower hose is cold, at this point I assume either radiator is plugged or waterpump is bad.
Water flows through raditor backwards and forward there is no blockage there.
I replaced the waterpump with a Graf brand, I could find no fault with the old pump actually I think the old pump was better it had a stainless impeller so it is not the pump.
I have checked flow through every hose,
.....with the engine off putting a garden hose.....
in the lower hose water will come out of the coolant reservoir and out of the uper hose as well by switching place with the garden hose water will comeout both of the other two places.
I also pulled the heater hose coming out of the distributer side of the engine, and water flows through it and out of the engine.
Also while I was replacing the water pump I put the garden hose into the jacket where the water pump bolts in, and water will flow out of the lower hose and out of the upper hose......
What am I missing here? Is the head gasket blowing by causing it to vapor lock and not allowing the water to flow,
What the heck can it be.
I also have an earlier post here (850 engine overheating) I thought I would try a frsh post.
