I recently recharged my A/C system with an off-the-shelf brand. I didn't pay attention to the sticker on the inside top of the fender that said USE ONLY VOLVO PAG COMPRESSOR OIL. The refrigerant I used was by Quest. I can't remember what kind of oil was mixed with it as I pitched the can. I added part of another can, and could only buy EZ Chill brand. The Quest brand was sold out. The lubricant specified on the EZ Chill can was "Polyol Ester".
Did I screw up adding the latter? Is Polyol Ester different from PAG? Additionally, it appears from some literature I read that the amount of oil in the compressor is critical. By adding a can of refrigerant with oil in it, did I o.d. the system? When I slip the collar ring on to check the system, I get some oil l coming out of the stem before the ring locks. Is this normal, or indicative that I have too much oil in the system? The A/C system works well, kicks very cold air, and doesn't cycle on and off like it used to, and pressure is within the limits.
