When my AC started acting up I feared the worse and that I would be in for an expensive repair or just dealing with no AC. And with almost 300,000 miles and just having replaced tranny a few months ago, not sure if I can go for an AC repair. However, I saw a post that mentioned that there is a thermal switch in the the AC compressor that goes bad and that is so faultly new ones don't even come with it (see fcpgroton.com compressor desciption).
Can someone detail the how of bypassing this switch? I can see the wires going into? the compressor on the bottom side facing the oil filter, but which do I pull, push or cut? Anyone have simple instructions? Keep in mind I'm not a skilled mechanic, but I have done a few things beyond tune-ups that impress me (if no one else), like replace my radiator (not as simple as on my old '76 chevy pickup truck!).
My symptoms: AC blows about 38 degrees from center vent until it gets hot and humid outside, say above 74. Or if hotter day will run about 15 minutes on first start of the day and then stop. When working it works great. Tried bypass of low presser switch, no change. Checked pressure - about 40. So to me, if working well and then just turning off like it does it doesn't seem like I need a recharge, condensor, evaporator or other parts. But a faulty switch sounds logical.
Thanks Ken
