My mechanic got my AC to work by drawing down to vacuum and holding it to test pressure, reconnected it electrically, and recharged it. It works now and blows cold, but only for 2 minutes (I timed it) after turning it on. Then it starts blowing ambient temperature.
Turning it off and on again does not restart it, even waiting 5 minutes, but turning off the engine and restarting does get the AC to blow cold again. What's going on? Mechanic mentioned the drier could be a problem - dessicant full of moisture even after he held it in vacuum for a time.
I don't know how long the AC was not working - I bought the car in September and the used dealer bought it in July (thanks, Carfax).
- update - I obviously should have read the AC related post from this afternoon before posting this, but now that I have, does this also sound like the compressor clutch needs adjusting?
